(The credit for the puking pumpkin goes to our friend, Blair, who came over with her mom and baby Ashton to carve pumpkins with us. It was a HUGE hit in the 5-35 year old male demographic.)As is usual around here, Halloween is a much anticipated event. It is a close second to Christmas. Parker freaks out at the thought of gathering tons of candy. I think Marin could care less, but she is excited because Parker is so excited. Parker would have stayed out all night, but daddy was getting tired and wanted to come home. The weather on Halloween was out of this world! It was 56 deg. F when they came home around 8:00 pm. Usually kids are so bundled up you can't see their costumes. No complaints here. Each kid came home with scads of booty, most of which is already gone. Rob and I just figure we'll let the kids eat all of their candy so it's all done and over with. Oddly enough, the dentist agrees. Don't get me wrong, Rob and I definitely had our fair share of goodies too.

Long story short, a few years back I ran out of candy and started giving away old Ramen and sodas. Now we are known as the house that gives away Ramen noodles and soda. We had over 200 trick-or-treaters this year and went through 4 cases of soda and 4 cases of Ramen noodles. The poor kids who came later in the night got candy corn and old Smarties. There was always a squeal of joy when a kid received a soda. The reception of Ramen noodles was mixed. Some kids had a very practical approach: "This will be my dinner tonight." Some were downright dumbfounded, "What's this?" Later I overheard the same kid say, "Mom, she gave me soup." Some kids thought it was the greatest, some thought it was the lamest thing to ever hit their Halloween bucket (okay, maybe it was better than pennies from the old lady).
Below are a few pics of our preparation and Halloween adventures.
Parker posing with his pumpkin that we grew in our garden this year. Hooray for us!
Marin as little frog. This was Parker's costume 2 years ago. I am so glad she has yet to assert her opinion about costumes.
Parker as Batman. He has been wearing the costume for weeks already.
Yep, those are pajama pants. Hey, they did have little skulls on them.

I love Halloween too. I'm not too sure why, I just feel excited this time of year. Love the pajama pants--I'm all about comfort at the expense of style.
I am surprised you didn't do dog treats as a handout.
I would have loved to have seen some of those kids faces. Priceless.
Isn't it interesting how traditions get started! Your choice of handouts reminded me of the scene in "Grumpy Old Men" when Walter Matthau's character gave away a stapler some coasters and a box of laundry detergent. You are awesome! I just have such great memories of driving you guys up and down the streets in the Wally Wagon in the nasty cold weather and the sliding door open, trying to hit as many houses we could. I also remember bartering for your Snickers bars! (Yummmmm!) GReat stuff. Sounds like you are well on your way to being remembered as " the wierd lady on Ponderosa". As your father, it kind of brings a little tear of emotion to my eye to know that a little bit of your Grandpa Hansen lives on in the random wierdness exhibited by you all! (Sniffle, Sniffle)
That is so funny about the soda and Ramen....I think I would have just turned off the lights but way to go for being creative! Like I said in my blog, one bag of candy was plenty for us, we had plenty left over. I love the name Marin by the way, it was on our list of baby girl names.
