STOP GLOBAL WARMING!!! (Weez, this one's for you)

Or rather, do a small part to conserve water by taking a bucket bath. For those of you who follow Lindsay's blog (www.weezinafrica.blogspot.com), she often refers to taking a bucket bath. I further inquired one day as to what that exactly means. She described such a bath in detail in her last post. Again, for those of you who don't know, Lindsay is working for the Peace Corps in Mauritania in West Africa. Never heard of it? Neither did I until a few months ago. Anyhoo, I digress.

I thought Parker would get a kick out of taking a bucket bath just like Lindsay does in Africa so I gave one to he and Marin last night. My sole purpose was to let them have a little fun, but it turns out it is a quick and efficient and very eco-friendly (to quote the popular phrase of '08) way to bathe kids.

I filled up a 3 gallon bucket with warm water and one squirt of bath soap. I stood the kids next to the bucket (as described by Lindsay) and proceeded to then dump water on the them with a cup, wash their hair and then wash them up with a washcloth. Washing both kids took less than 5 minutes and I only used 3 gallons of water. No kidding! There were no toys to play with (hence the short duration) and the only complaint the kids had was all of the water in their eyes. Parker's favorite part was sitting in the bucket and making it sound like a fart every time he tried to get out. Success!

I had a couple of thoughts about bucket baths later that night. One, it may be good to practice in case you need to use your food storage water. Three gallons of water for 2 kids is pretty good. Tell you kids it's "emergency" day and practice taking a bucket bath. Maybe every General Conference when you switch out the food in your 72 hr kit, which we all do, riiiight??? My second thought was that it really is a good way to conserve water which is good for everything, including your water bill. I think bucket baths may be regular around here. Now, if I could only get my kids to stop turning the hose and leaving it running all day...

Rob and I have yet to try a bucket bath, but rest assured, we will. And, for all of your sakes and that of our temple recommends, we will not be posting pictures.

That's a good idea. I think my kids would get a kick our of it.

And Parker has the best smile!

Chop'll be all over that one! - Great idea for getting use out of the stored water.

That last one is a mini-Amanda if I've ever seen one!! I like the bucket bath idea too, we spend way too much time and water on bathing the kids. But my only question is if the water already had soap in it, how were you able to rinse the soap out of their hair?

Back in my day, those were called sponge baths and her name was Olga.
