Florida Part 1: Avoided the Financial Rape of Disney

We had the opportunity this summer to spend 4 weeks in Florida while visiting Rob's family. I always feel it is a blessing to have family in Florida because we would never have a reason to travel that far. As Rob says, we would just to to Utah like everyone else.

We stayed on Cocoa Beach which is on the east coast, about 10 miles south of Cape Canaveral which is the bump you see on maps of Florida.

The first thing people ask when hearing about a vacation to Florida is, "Are you going to Disney World?" The answer for us was simply, "No." If you read this blog, you will remember that we didn't have a great time back in December. Plus, it is summertime where the daily high is 94 deg. F every day and it is VERY humid. Standing in long lines with whiny kids after having handed over hundreds of dollars just for entry while sweating out of every pore? No thanks!

Rob's Aunt Joan and Uncle Bob live in Cocoa Beach and have since the 70's. Growing up, Rob spent his summers with there surfing, swimming, and doing other beach stuff. Rob's parents live in Melbourne (also on the map) and were about 15 miles away. It was really great for us, and especially for the kids, to be so close to family that are so far away.

So, if we didn't go to Disney World, then what did we do? Stay tuned!

I hope you picked up my botox while you were there with all the dried up prunes.
