Just outside of Rexburg is a touristy animal sanctuary that houses several mountain west mammals (bison, elk, bears, etc.). I saw on the news one night that they were going to open the gift shop for a few days so the public could pet and hold the 10 black bear cubs that were born a couple of months ago. I thought the kids would think this was great so Rob and I surprised them by taking them to Yellowstone Bear World to play with bear cubs.
When we got there, we were thoroughly disappointed, as were the kids. There was one very overprotective handler with only one cub. And, you only got to pet the cub if you paid the $15 for the picture. We paid our money as to not deny the kids their only opportunity (most likely) to ever touch a bear. Not that the kids cared much. It just looked like an overgrown kitten, but one very big claws. It even took Parker a minute to warm up the idea of touching a bear. Once the picture was taken, the overprotective handler quickly whisked the bear away. That was it. Woo.

Parker had more fun doing this than petting the baby bear.

Bummer about the bear cub handling. At least you can say you touched a real live bear (no one has to know the details. ) :)
